After Uber launched special accounts for teenagers, they are now looking to the other end of the hour glass and creating accounts for ‘seniors’.
The accounts have been simplified for people who may not be as comfortable with tech, and include larger text and buttons which are easier to tap.
They can be linked up with another user’s account,so their children or grandchildren can book a trip for them and track where they go.
The new ‘senior accounts’ are designed to make it easier for older people to use the ride-hailing app.
They were piloted in the US and South America last month, and will now be rolled out in the UK too.
Trusted relatives or caregivers will be able to help manage rides for older users through the existing ‘family profiles’ feature.
Through this, they can invite an older adult to set up an account,as well as remotely book and track rides for them.

It means they can offer support from afar including live-tracking their trip and the ability to contact the driver or Uber’s safety reporting line.
Loved ones will also be able to see the driver’s name and vehicle information.
Older users will also be able to book trips independently, but the option of help is there for those who do not feel confident.
Uber said it worked with older users and accessibility advocates to develop the new accounts.
They were designed to address concerns that many elderly people feel excluded from technology or do not have the skills to be digitally-savvy.
Last year,‘teen accounts’ were launched for riders aged 13 to 17,where parents and carers can also supervise bookings, and teenagers are matched to more experienced drivers.
Uber UK’s general manager Andrew Brem said the tools ‘prioritise simplicity, safety and peace of mind’ for older people and their families.
‘These features are all about helping older adults stay independent and connected, while giving loved ones the confidence that Uber is there to help,’ he said.
